Today was planned months ago, the Rockies verses the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field. Now baseball is not my game but I love sports so I was looking to watching my first live game and after a few questions answered by Jamie the game began and I was soon understanding what was going on and actually enjoying it. Couple that with a Rockie Dog a piece and a Coors to wash it down with even 10 minutes of light rain during the seventh innings couldn’t spoil the day. Top that with the Rockies trailing 3 – 1 until the bottom of the 8th where they managed 4 scores to lead 5 – 3 and quickly wrap up the Giants ninth innings without reply it was a brilliant day!

Sort of sums up our day I think?

We left Reagan with Grandma and by all accounts they had a great day too but it was nice to spend the day with Jamie just having a little us time which we don’t do often enough, not because we don’t get the chance but because we just love being around Reagan so much.

Anyway after the game we went to Racines (an old haunt\workplace of Jamie’s) for dinner with Emily and Eric and of coarse Reagan where we all ate our selves to a standstill having lots of fun too. Unfortunately our social evenings have to end around 8 because of Reagan’s bathtime and bedtime but all in all another great day!

Since the hullaballoo of Sunday we have seriously gone into holiday mode lazing around the house and local area doing basically…nothing!

It’s fantastic to watch Grandma and Grandpa with Reagan and see how much all three of them enjoy it, it is also nice for Jamie to spend time with her parents. Then there is Auntie Emily who when ever she is around Reagan wants a cuddle and to play with her and Reagan’s face lights up when she see’s her.

All this makes me very happy and proud to be here and see it all and be a part of it.

What do you get if you cross the American National Anthem, an Englishman, Coors beer and a helium filled balloon?

America I apologise!

The reason we came to Denver at this time of year was because Jamie’s sister was due to graduate from Metro State University and today she received her diploma on a very cold and wet Sunday morning. Lots of her family and friends came in from all over the country to celebrate her day with her and the weather did not spoil the occasion…

From Jamie Alan & Reagan CONGRATULATIONS we are all very proud of you!

Reagan & Grandma

Lazy day yesterday started of with a walk to Einstein’s Bagels an experience both Jamie and me had looked forward to for months lol Not everyone’s holiday highlight but going out for breakfast is something Jamie misses when in England While there we saw a lady fall over really hard on some water and hobble back to her feet and I was so disappointed with Jamie because she was just about to got to the bathroom…we could have frickin’ own Einstein’s if she had slipped and OBVIOUSLY NOT HURT HERSELF but we could have made all manner of shit up from backache to contraction’s we’d have made millions…. I jest of coarse but that lady did hurt herself and they did an accident report.

The rest of the day was spent just not being in a car and allowing Reagan to do what she wanted which I think she deserved after the miles she traveled so patiently and without half the amount of problems I’m sure she could have caused!

The actual highlight of the day was meeting Uncle Jim and Aunt Linda, family I hear about but haven’t met and what a lovely couple they are and Reagan took to both of them straight away. We had a BBQ and although rReagan had to go inside to eat because there was just too much going on to eat it was great to spend time with more of Jame’s family before tomorrow because Emily’s graduation party will be a meet the family overload I bet?

After Reagan became too tired to do anything we bathed her but she was just too tired for a bottle and went straight to bed leaving the grown ups to talk a little before they all drifted off. Before we went to bed I did get a chance to talk to Aunt Sandi on the phone which was nice and I know she reads this, so I will just say like I said last night I can’t wait to meet you someday! (even if you do turn up in England unannounced you will always be welcome!)

Deadwood at 04:30am is a lonely town, although we didn’t leave the hotel room, I can imagine it is unless you’re winning in the casino’s and then I suppose you’d have lots of friends….? We got up with Reagan who upto now has been a star considering she is as jet-lagged as us but she doesn’t know it she just thinks we’ve gone mad! Once everyone was awake and ready to leave we headed to the Tin Lizzie diner just down the road who had a huge sign advertising $3:99 all you can eat breakfast buffet’s but on seeing what was on offer at the counter I would have preferred to eat the sign? Arriving at the next casino just up the block I think we all hit the jackpot because their breakfast buffet was fabulous and just what the doctor ordered with good coffee to wash down eggs potato’s sausages and bacon until you almost burst!

Mount Rushmore just down the road was the highlight of today’s plan and I have to say it was “awesome” (as they say in these parts?) As a spectacle it really is breathtaking but when you go inside and learn about its history and what they went through to create it it become much much more and I was thoroughly impressed!!!

Crazy Horse is a memorial further into the black hill’s but blizzard conditions meant we didn’t feel it worth spending the money to see a white-out because the weather at Rushmore almost ruined the day because of the mist covering the faces at times. I am sure it’s sunny up there today as I am writing this blog the day after our visit but it didn’t spoil our day at all and will be a treasured memory for ever although I would like to return with the “two” kids when they too can see understand and be amazed at it!

If that was the highlight of the day, seeing wild Buffalo roaming by the side of the road was almost as good for me as we drove away from the memorial towards Nebraska. On the way we stopped for lunch at a roadside diner and have to admit having just seen those buffalo felt a tad guilty ordering a buffalo burger but I had to try one just to see what they tasted like…sorry! Just after leaving the diner and still in South Dakota we saw wild turkeys which Cliff admitted he’d never seen before so I was quite excited to see those too but this time I knew what they tasted like so my blood lust never came lol.

Nebraska! What can I say about Nebraska I certainly couldn’t ‘go on on’ about it like the road through it does because there is just nothing in the state just plains… flat vast plains…although we did pass some feeding farms with 1000’s of beef cattle as far as the eye could see and thought I wish me dad was here because he would appreciate what we were seeing although for me if you’ve seen one feeding farm you’ve seen them all. An interesting thing I learned was the harsh snowy winters mean every ranch is shielded by trees on the north side so everytime you saw a group of trees you could tell you were coming up on a dwelling (I could NOT live out there FMD I would go mental)

I385 was our road to heaven and the the end of our road trip but it was very very long and although Reagan had been so good we all found our selves reaching for Denver a little early like a 100m sprinter dipping for the line and once past the Colorado state line we still had at least two and half hours still to go and Reagan was over todays car journey and transport in general I think she was just fed up of the car seat and fed up of being strapped down and so tired her eyes must have stung. The rest of us knew the end was near but she just thought get me to bed and leave me alone I hate you all! It made me sad to think she might think that….

Counting the miles then the blocks and then the steps up to the house we made it to Denver and home at last, we had a brief meet and greet with Auntie Emily and Eric and then bath bottle and bed for Reagan whilst the rest of us drifted off to bed pretty soon afterwards as we were all ready for the end of our trip!

After 3850 miles by plane and 1400 miles by automobile the last thing I need now is a train journey but I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and it was great to meet up in Chicago with Pam and Cliff and for them to spend 4 days getting to know their Grandchild whilst we all enjoyed seeing a lot more of america than I ever thought, I would thanks to for the experience Pam and Cliff from the bottom of my heart. Day 3 began at 4:30am when the fricking radio alarm went off playing rock music at full tilt but only for a second as four pairs of hands smashed it to smithereens! It began again at 7am with a more pleasant shower and breakfast in the hotel before heading back out on to I90 to Mitchel South Dakota to visit the world’s only “Corn Palace” which I was sceptical about when I first heard about it and first impressions when we approached were it looked a little corny (forgive me but I just had too lol) but it was a really interesting place and had lots of interesting features and things to see and do. We were given a short guided tour before being allowed to drift off and discover it on our own. The funniest thing was Reagan “trumpeting on stage” but it was interesting to learn they decorate it with a new design in corn every single year and have done since the 1800’s

After the Palace we got back on to I90 for 100+ miles past field after field of farmed land then came upon the Missouri River a beautiful picturesque break from the farmland as we crossed it, After crossing it the landscape changed and it was prairie land as far as the eye could see and beyond and we past the place where Laura Ingles Wilder lived but unfortunately the actual place was 55miles out of our way or we would have detoured and visited it.
We came up next on a place called Murdo, where a few months ago Cliff had seen the biggest car he’d ever seen and was keen to pull off and show it to the rest of us and if you look todays gallery you will he was right it was HUGE…and I’ve no idea why?

Next up was a time zone to cross into which meant turning our watches back an hour then on to Rapid City for lunch at a place called The Firehouse Grill and old fire house which was changed into a restaurant which I really enjoyed food was good too!

After Rapid city we drove the short distance Deadwood a town now dedicated to gambling which Pam and Cliff pretty quickly disapeared in to the evening to participate in, we on the other hand were feeling the jetlag a little at this point and although desperate to not miss a thing on this trip decided we should get Reagan some food and just let her rest. This was the plan but Reagan was hyper after being in the car so long so we just let her run riot until she wore herself out and after so long in the car this took ages lol Eventually mommy decided to go get some vegetables from the nearest place come back and feed Reagan then we would all go to bed. Reagan crashed 5 minutes before mommy returned so we let her sleep which she did until the morning and even though we were hungry too we slept as well. Read more
