2022

it was Lincoln’s turn to perform at Young Voices tonight, finally after being postponed twice because of covid, and it was fantastic. There are hundreds of children there but we were only interested in one and once we picked him out from the masses he was the only kid there lol although it helped that his mate Seth stood next to him with such a distinctive hair style!

It was a superb spectacle, a rock concert atmosphere and it looked like everyone including the parents enjoyed it

We drove to Altrincham and got the tram into Manchester then got a taxi to our favourite restaurant Grand Daddy’s Diner for burgers and wings met up with Chris and Kate and went to the show.

Lincoln arrived back at school aboard a coach full of his school friends today and we couldn’t wait to greet him and hear all about his first school residential.

Reagan called to ask if she could go to the park straight after school with her friends which I immediately replied yes, just be home for 5:30 which she was.

With both children at home and safe Mommy and Daddy went for a walk with Billy and used the walk to decompress after working all day and reflect on having both of them home makes our family complete again. That is such a simple thing but it makes us very happy and content with our lives.

There are 14 sets of parents in Texas, who started their day today by sending their children off to Robb Elementary School and that was the last time they’ll ever see their children. The news is breaking as I sit writing this post that an 18 year old boy has entered the school shooting and killing 14 children and a teacher after first shooting his Grandmother

Jamie said before she went to bed “and people wonder why I live here and not America!” and I have to agree, that with so many school shootings it must be terrifying just simply sending your children to school and wondering if you’ll ever see them again.

The second ammendment will be discussed I am sure but it won’t bring these kids back and won’t stop the next one but doing nothing surely isn’t an option….?

RIP little ones

England is not perfect but I am glad we live here and our children are so much safer when we send them to school each morning.

Lincoln finally got to go on a school residential the one he was so looking forward to in April 2020 until the pandemic hit and the world shutdown denying him and his class mates that residential.

This one is only one night away because the school had to cut it short because he and his classmates are singing in Young Voices at Manchester O2 on Wednesday night another COVID casualty rescheduled a couple of times the final one clashing with their residential cutting that short to fit both in.

Today and tomorrow he is in Stratford upon Avon leaving more about William Shakespeare and Lady McBeth, we think because we have had no updates from the school on Twitter (their usual news outlet) so we can only guess?

Our walk tonight with Billy we had to walk past the tree Lincoln hangs off every night and says “Look I’m a Sloth!” without stopping…very sad

I hope he’s having the best time!

A couple of weeks ago our neighbour came round and asked if I could help her get her husband up on his feet as he had fallen and couldn’t get back up, of course I immediately said yes and and went to help. I found him sat on the lawn perfectly fine but being in his 80s he just couldn’t manage to get back up, so I helped him to his feet and back into the house and sat him down leaving him in the care of his wife.

Today he popped his head over the fence and asked if I could come round and help because his wife had a bit of an emergency, again I immediately said yes but this time ran round next door. I found their son supporting his mum who was sat on a chair unconscious and needed help getting her on the floor which we quickly but carefully managed and he checked to make sure she was breathing while an ambulance was called. Luckily as they were talking the ambulance dispatcher she began to come round slowly before beginning to respond complaining of being hot and confused how she’d gotten from the chair to the floor.

As the ambulance was on its way and that she was coherent now although confused I came home saying I would be sat in the garden if they needed me again. I passed them a fan and some ice thinking that if she was too hot they might help but then got on with the rest of my day. The ambulance arrived and they did take her away but thats all I know as I write this…I hope she’s OK!

Spent all day creating the frame for the base of my shed and managed to complete it and I am able to see the scale of the building and its potential.

I can also workout the materials for the next stage and the best way to spend my money

Wood delivered this morning had to work all day staring out the window wishing I was out there fettling, it got 5pm and it rained spoiling my first opportunity so decided best to leave it until tomorrow.

Hoping for a dry day.

I have been laying out the design of “my shed” for weeks now and I really love designing it and often having to alter it to suit building materials mostly and watching things fall into place eventually and a couple of days ago something happened that was like a light bulb coming on and everything just started to work and I am almost certain when the first lot of wood arrives tomorrow I have the design drawings sorted to get the base made and levelled.

Shed Floor Design

I am really looking forward getting started!

Jamie has bought a new carpet for our bedroom and a new bed, the carpet is being fitted tomorrow so we have had to empty the bedroom tonight in readiness the old carpet and the bottom of the bed have both been taken to the tip so we have a mattress on a bare floor to sleep on tonight. The problem is our new bed doesn’t come until next week so we will have a lovely new carpet tomorrow but it’ll be like camping for a week practically sleeping on the floor?

I have been working out what wood to buy and from where for days if not weeks because wood is very expensive right now but today I just thought get aome bought and get started and I can work out the next batch while I work. Howarth Timber in Northwich seemed the best place to got so I worked out I need 13 x 3.6m & 13 x 2.4m lengths of 2 x 3 treated wood and that it was going to cost £340.86 which is a lot of money but it would get me started and after this I can buy when I have the money and progress like that. Not wanting to buy off the website without seeing it first I decided to go to their yard and buy on site, a quick look and I knew it was the right stuff and went to the desk and ordered the lot.

That’s £218.20 please, we’ll deliver it Thursday!

Wow! What? I kept calm, paid, and walked to my car, either their website is wrong or he was either way I am off and running and have an unexpected £122.66 towards my next load of wood so happy days!

When I was at school I played darts and I was always good at simple maths adding, subtracting, multiply and dividing because to play darts you need to do all three hahaha in your head quickly. To play in a pub you have to mark the board (do the scoring on a blackboard) before you can play the winner, a good darts thrower doesn’t get chalk on his hands but he still has to be good at maths. I always thought they missed a trick not using darts in school to make learning maths fun, and often asked if I could bring a board into school to try it, partly because I wanted to play more darts but also because I really did think it was a great idea. They never took me up on it and nowadays the health and safety brigade wouldn’t allow it anyway but tonight as I helped with his maths homework I used my darts counting to create improper fractions very quickly and trying to explain to Lincoln how sharp my 18s and 27 times tables were because I played so much darts it was fun to learn!
