2022

Jamie and the kids went to the zoo today as half term draws to an end, she is such a great mum wanting to to do the best she can for them even if one of them makes it really hard to be, unless the world revolves correctly around her.

Lincoln on the other hand is still easy especially because he can be extra good when he sees his sister pushing the boundaries and flick the little angel switch or just disappear until the dust settles lol.

I spent the day in the garden framing the walls to my shed while listening to Test Match Special I felt good today and was able to get most of the wall framing done with just the door opening to complete and noggins to add but used up all the wood I had. Nothing is spoiling now until I can afford to get some more 3 x 2 and corner posts.

I didn’t want it to take the wind out of my sails but it has, the flex in the plywood I have used for the floor is bugging me and I can’t get past it even though its apparent on the edges between the joists I can se some of it at the joins too. It’s not bad but it’s on me mind now so it’ll be on me mind until I sort it, so the next purchase will have to be corner posts and a new floor so that I can sort if while it’s easy to. I think it says a lot about me that there is a perfectionist in there and I want it to be right even though it’s not that bad and probably wouldn’t be a problem…?

The framing is going well though and should have the rear wall and both side walls done tomorrow

Spent all day on getting the floor of the shed finished and it went well I got the moisture barrier done and added the plywood top but found that there was some flex in the plywood so will have to upgrade the floor before erecting the walls but it shouldn’t stop me I have enough to be getting on with and buy 3 sheets next month.

Foil moisture barrier

After erecting the tent to dry it out after the weekend and then packing it away again I thought it would nice to take Jamie out for a meal and go see Top Gun Maverick which she’d wanted to see for a couple of weeks since it came out so that’s what we did while the kids went to Nannies.

Today was a good day!

With a load of raw materials to work on, a four day weekend and good weather forecast I am looking forward to spending the next few days indulging myself with a bit of shed building. I managed to make a start on the floor this afternoon and get a couple of sheets of insulation fitted to the floor and hopefully get the floor finished tomorrow with a moisture barrier and plywood top which will give me a place that is flat and square, to work on the four wall frames. At the moment with all the materials around the base and the base not a floor it’s awkward so hopefully the forecast allows a full day and I can get it done.

What I learned today was, if you don’t know something or you are not sure YouTube is the place to go, all these ideas about garden rooms and offices have turned my original shed idea into something more multi purpose and a place I can work as well as maybe office type space and bar possibly there are many options and all will be my own creation

A lazy kind of day partly because I was tired, it was raining and also I couldn’t do a great deal because I was waiting for my next delivery of wood to arrive. I took Reagan to horse riding at 9am and called at Screwfix on the way home but arrived back with no sign of my wood, so pottered around doing washing that remained from the weekend sorted Jamie’s office wiring out which just needed tidying so her desk was less cluttered.

When the wood did arrive at 4pm the rain stayed off allowing me to carry it to the back garden and get it covered before the heavens opened again washing out any chance of getting any tools out and doing a bit but now I have it on site I can go out anytime and fettle to my hearts content.

The forecast said rain for this morning and rain it did, it was lovely first thing when I took Billy to the river for a walk before anyone else was awake but spots of rain began around 7:30 and continued until we had the tent and everything else in the car. Breakfast was Maccies on the way home because we’d packed the kitchen away last night, we arrived home around 12:30 and I set about trying g to get the car unpacked and as much gear away as possible before we went to get nannie

It was Nannies birthday yesterday so we all had a bath or shower before getting our glad rags on and going out for tea at the Big Lock. It was good to spend time with Nannie even though the service and food experience left a lot to be desired…we will not be going back let’s just say!

We brushed up quite we considering?

The company we keep when camping is very important to a good trip Sam & Andy Kerry & Steve plus their children are a great mix and really great to be around. This trip started on Friday night with the race to get to site setup then sit and relax but that I always find almost impossible after the hard work is over and the thought of the first night under canvas looms, add into that sobriety and my mood was not great. Saturday morning after a freezing cold night standing in the middle of a field trying to boil a pan of water for a brew and cooking bacon followed by a treck across the field to wash up didn’t help. Yes we had a good day yesterday and were a lot more prepared for the cold night ahead but my feet were freezing all night though I did sleep a bit better because the rest of me was warmer.

Today we went to Caernarfon and did some crabbing which all the kids loved and they were all successful catching all sizes of crab and a couple of fish too. The promise of ice cream as a treat before a pub tea later was in everyone’s mind and the ahop did a roaring trade when we converged even Billy got some dog friendly ice cream I got a two scoop mint choc chip cone obvs!

We’d booked into the microbrewery pub for our teas and we weren’t disappointed with the good pub food served and afterwards again sat outside the tents talking to our friends, they were again drinking and we were talking about last night and what was consumed and this was the first time I really thought what harm would one drink do in the big scheme of things…? I didn’t partake because I would not have stopped at one, sat in a field getting eaten alive by those fecking midgies. They were the reason we broke up the party before 10pm tonight and also everyone was being tugged by the thought of going home in the morning and if we go to bed we’ll be home sooner

Today was a good day the children all spent the day with a smile on their faces, playing out side in the sun and fresh air and not a phone or game console in sight.

After the coldest night I have spent in years we got up and slowly thawed out and after breakfast we decided to drive to Llanberis, a good desicion because there was something for everyone.

A train ride along the lake with a stop for picturesque photos

Eventually dropping us off at the cafe and gift shop and the entrance to the slate museum which doesn’t sound that interesting but was actually OK and the kids loved so a winner

My morning walk

I am sat in our tent in Wales we got to Snowdonia Parc Brewery campsite at about 7pm and spent 2 frantic hours setting up camp, next to our friends being eaten alive by midgies before sitting down surrounded by citronella candles to catch up with Sam Andy Kerry and Steve.

At around 10:30 the insects subsided and the damp set it making everyone feel cold so at 11pm I called time and we came and sat in the tent with the fan heater on while the kids went to bed. All this was done sober when though everyone else had a drink in their hands

In the photo below you might be able to make out the icicle hanging like a stalactite from my nose and was taken just as hypothermia was setting in…

Yep it’s that time of year again when we go and live like homeless people for a couple of days or as its sometimes called “camping”?

Today I learned that camping is not my favourite thing to do, and packing the car to go is depressing.

Tickets go on sale for Broncos v Jaguars on Tuesday 21st June at 10am

Both children made me proud last night Reagan was so good even though it was her brothers night and Lincoln because he and the 1000s of other children were amazing!

I am overcome with jealousy when my neighbour at number 17 gets a delivery of materials to continue his shed I can see he is building

Our new luxurious bed might not make me the most comfortable I’ve ever been…

This last lesson is so disappointing I hope I am wrong and the first night was just a bad night’s sleep so tonight I am hoping I feel more comfortable ? It’s a huge bed and looks so opulent but I won’t be able to “get used to it” if it’s not comfortable…
